About us

Hello, we are Jamie & Claire Griffiths. We have a passion for architectural salvage and all things rustic. Jamie is a cabinet maker by trade with a passion for classic cars / vehicles generally and loves anything Old.

We decided to set up a small Glamping business as a family with our daughter Lowri. We thought about shepherd huts, tents, glamping pods etc but due to the bracing weather on times we wanted something with longevity. As the Neath to Brecon railway line onced passed by our property we decided upon a train for nostalgia.

History

The Neath and Brecon Railway was vital for South Wales coal industry, it linked the small collieries in the Neath & Swansea valleys to larger industrial complexes and provided a regular passenger service to Brecon which linked onto Hereford, Worcester and the West Midlands.
Neath and Brecon Railway opened to Brecon in 1867 and was withdrawn from passenger use in 1962. Today, the Cray station building has been demolished and replaced by a bungalow.
This main image above shows the old Cray Train Station. Our train ( Toad ) is now where those trees are. 🙂
This diagram shows the line passing through Cray.

First impressions of walking up through the field, to the Toad carriage was amazing. Seeing it nestled up in the trees, with the seating outside, we couldn't wait to unpack, and relax in the environment. The photos of the views from the balcony, don't do it justice, and the area in general, is so beautiful. The carriage itself is clearly a labour of love with attention to detail. We loved all the reclaimed railway signs dotted around. Most importantly, we found the bed / mattress to be comfortable and had a good night's sleep. Would love to return.
