Unique Self Catering
in the Brecon Beacons

The Toad

Are you looking for a unique and quirky place to stay in Wales? Why not try a vintage train holiday. The Toad is an incredibly well restored GWR brake van vintage train otherwise known as a Toad Wagon, hence the name, commonly used post wartime as a safety brake on goods trains. Boasting original rustic features and weighing a hefty 20 tons, today offering unique self catering accommodation with en-suite shower. Why not immerse yourself amongst sounds of bird song and country life. Come wind, rain or shine escape to this fantastic base and explore the Brecon Beacons and beyond all year round.

The space

Inside we have lovingly restored and preserved its authenticity and original interior, incorporating bespoke oak and mahogany features throughout. Whilst rummaging through local antique shops and markets, many items are sourced locally at Trecastle Antiques Centre, we even found an authentic railway luggage rack!
In addition to this, we have installed all the ‘mod cons’ needed to supply instant hot water, heating, air conditioning, outside lighting and multiple charging points (including USB and a shaving point) for your stay.

We absolutely loved our stay in this carriage! The views were stunning and it was so unbelievably peaceful. The table and chairs on the little patio area were vital, made a lovely breakfast spot! The wood burner (which was already set up thankfully) and the fire pit made sure we had a warm night enjoying the dry weather why it lasted. Overall, the place was beautiful and unique, it’s an experience on its own!
